If today is your regular trash collection day, it's also leaf collection day for you. There will be no missed pickups conducted. The Town asks that you please do your part in proper preparation for disposal. We ask that you abide by the following rules: Leaves must be out for collection by 7:00 AM on your regular rubbish collection day. Leaf containers must be physically separated from trash and recycling. Paper leaf bags are preferred for leaf disposal. If barrels are used to contain the leaves, remove covers so the leaves are visible. No plastic bags or cardboard boxes will be accepted. No branches or brush will be collected. Please note that separate trucks collect the rubbish, recycling, and leaves; so the leaves may be collected at a different time of day.

Fri night is Ladies night. We will have an array of vendors and crafters for the women to shop at their leisure. the bar will be open with Party snacks. We will have Massage stations, along with Reikie, tarot card readers and manicure stations. Vendors, so far include pampered chef, avon, Tastefully Sinful, Silpada jewelry, home interiors and many more. We will preview a silent auction and many raffles throughout the night.

There will be a silent auction and raffle items at the Oaklandvale School up until 3:00 PM. There will also be all manner of childrens' events throughout the day.

You are cordially invited to an open house to celebrate jointly the recent opening of the new corporate offices and retail branch of the Saugusbank and the release of the new Saugus book Of Time and the River, Saugus 1900-2005. This new book, a sequel to A Gathering of Memories, Saugus 1900-2000, offers a continuing nostalgic account of a century in the life of Saugus.

Come join us for a LIVE re-enactment of the birth of Jesus on our front lawn. There will be Angels, Shepherds, Wise Men, donkeys, sheep, goats and the Baby Jesus arriving on the front lawn of the church. Come listen, watch and sing as we tell the story of the birth of Jesus through narration, scripture and song. Following the Living Nativity, there is a fund-raising Christmas Buffet Dinner complete with Roast Beef, Baked Ham, Roast Turkey Breast, Italian Wedding Soup, Macaroni & Cheese, Pasta in red sauce, Salad & Dessert. Tickets must be purchased for admittance to the dinner. They are $15.00 for adults & $7.50 for children under 10 years. Tickets can be obtained by calling the church office (781)665-1764.

The Melrose Running Club in conjunction with the Melrose Fish and Game Club will host the second annual Assault on Mount Hood 3.5 mile cross country running race on Sunday, December 10th at 11:00 AM. This challenging, but fun, cross country race starts and ends in front of the Melrose Fish and Game Club and meanders through the fairways of the Mount Hood Golf Course with views of the Boston skyline. The cost of registration is $13 prior to December 3rd and $15 thereafter. Proceeds from the race benefit Melrose Youth Recreation and Melrose Fish and Game Charities. Runners can register online http://www.melroserunningclub.com/assaultonmthood/2006/mthood.shtml or register on race day beginning at 9:30 AM at the Melrose Fish and Game Club on Stillton Road in Melrose. Based on the number of pre-registered runners today, the Melrose Running Club expects to have nearly double (approximately 200) the number or runners this year. The number of pre-registered runners today is 69, which exceeds the number of pre-registered runners on December 1st last year. In 2005, a total of 128 runners (most registered on race day) braved the 8 inches of snow on the ground to run the Assault on Mount Hood. The race is professionally timed by SARK and results will be posted on coolrunning.com immediately following the race. Age group awards will be given to the top male and female runners in each category. The race director, Brian Slater of the Melrose Running Club, said “This race would not be possible without the cooperation and support of the office of Melrose Mayor Robert Dolan, Golf Management LLC and the City of Melrose Parks Department.” Immediately following the race is a spaghetti luncheon and awards ceremony at the Melrose Fish and Game Club. Come join us for an afternoon of holiday fun! There will be free photos with Santa for both people and pets, balloon sculptures, face painting, ornament making, cookies and cocoa, holiday music and choir singing and much more. The best part? It's all free! This is a Christmas present to the local communities from the Department Of Conservation and Recreation and the Friends Of Breakheart Reservation. A donation of nonperishable food for local food banks, or a clean used coat for our One Warm Coat program would be greatly appreciated.
