Beautiful Bats Suitable for adults and children ages 8 and older. Saugus is sponsoring an educational seminar explaining the State's conflict of interest law. The seminar is being conducted by Carol Carson, Chief, Communications and Public Education Division of the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission. The Commission enforces the State's conflict of interest and financial disclosure laws. The conflict of interest law, G.L. c.268A, covers what municipal officials and employees may do on the job, after hours, and after they leave government service. The seminar explains how to avoid potential conflicts that may arise between their private interests and public positions. The goal of the seminar is to provide a basic understanding of the principles of the law and how to comply with them by discussing "real life" situations and conflicts that may arise on the job. Some topics covered at the seminar will include restrictions on receiving gifts, outside employment, contracting with the Town, acting on matters in which family members and business associates have a financial interest, and leaving municipal government to work for companies that have business with the same town.

Come enjoy an early summer evening concert and show support for our men and women in uniform as well. The United States Air Force Band Of Liberty will be performing jazz and show tunes at the Breakheart Visitor Center. Bring your own blankets and chairs. The Saugus Historical Society will be selling their famous strawberry shortcake at the concert.

Besides a plant and craft tables and a table with Saugus Historical Society merchandise, there will be strawberry shortcake, hot dogs, donuts, soda, and coffee, plus free balloon animals and strawberry drinks for the children courtesy of Wild Oats. There will also be free entertainment provided by the Improv group and Sherri Raftery of the Theatre Company and a presentation of Strawberry Brook in song and story by Joe Boyd of the Lynn Historical Society. Proceeds will benefit the Saugus Historical Society.

Come watch as volunteers from the Massachusetts College of Art Iron Guild conduct the Third Annual Father's Day Iron Pour. See them demonstrate iron casting techniques similar to those practiced at the Iron Works in the seventeenth century. Watch as the Guild's furnace roars to life. Sense the anticipation build until the furnace is tapped and, all of a sudden, the molten iron gushes into awaiting ladles. Feel the heat from the fiery liquid as it is poured into the cavity of a mold where it "freezes" into shape. Bring a lawn chair and picnic lunch, and enjoy the beautiful grounds of the reconstructed iron works. Fun activities for kids will be offered. Activities are free to all.
