This forum is the second phase of the "Saugus Solutions -- Planning for Our Tomorrow" series that the Town and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council will sponsor as a result of a grant the Town received from the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs for planning.

The 2003 Green Buildings Open House, which is part of the American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour, will be held on October 4, 2003 from 10 am – 4 pm. During this one-day event homes and buildings will be open for the general public to learn about how to incorporate renewable energy and green building practices into a home or business. Homeowners and building managers will be on hand to answer questions. NESEA organizes the Green Buildings Open House in the six New England States, DE, NJ, NY and PA. There will be a guest performance by the Saugus High School Improv Theater Group.

Various Saugus Historical Society business items will be discussed, but as always folks in the general public who are interested are welcome.

Dr. Paul Connett, international expert on incineration, will be speaking about the proposed RESCO third burner. This event is sponsored by SAVE, the Saugus River Watershed Council, and the North Shore Coalition for Health & the Environment.

These are challenging times for our country, our state, and our region. A number of crucial issues will be before Congress and the committees on which I serve in the coming months, including higher education, special education, workforce investment, health care, pension protection, national security, energy and environmental policy. Your comments and advice on these and other matters of concern to you are always welcome.

The Saugus Historical Commission Meeting will be at 6:30 PM in the Local History Room of the Saugus Public Library.

There will be a special Saugus Town Meeting held to discuss just four articles, including one related to late night business hours and a couple related to specific changes to the zoning map.

The Saugus Housing Authority Meeting will be at 6:00 PM in the Heritage Heights Conference Room.

The Asian Task Force's 10th annual Silk Road Gala will be held Saturday, October 25, 2003 at Marriott Copley Hotel in Boston. The evening will feature multicultural Asian cuisine, a live and silent auction as well as live entertainment. This year's theme is "Silk Road Journey", an ancient trade route that provided unprecedented cultural exchange between the East and West of Asia. This theme further symbolizes the journey battered women take to reach independence. All proceeds benefit The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, Inc., New England's only shelter and advocacy program for battered Asian women and their children. Monster Dash Come walk, run, slither or otherwise transport yourself through ghoulishly decorated Breakheart Reservation. Costumes optional, but encouraged.
