The “Saugus Military Families” holds its monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Cpl. Scott J. Procopio American Legion Post 210, located at 44 Taylor Street. “Saugus Military Families” is a group that supports our troops by sending personalized packages to our troops and providing support to their families here at home. And Members of Saugus Action Volunteers for the Environment (SAVE) will be sponsoring a "swap meet" to help keep reusable items out of the waste stream; even collecting old worn-out sneakers and athletic shoes to donate to the Nike Re-use a Shoe program. Great local bluegrass band, Southern Rail presents a free concert from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm sponsored by the Friends of Breakheart Reservation and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Bring the family, a lawn chair and a picnic to enjoy one of our favorite blue grass bands as they end our concert season in style. This event follows our annual fall festival and takes place rain or shine. The meeting of the Saugus Garden Club will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 7:00 at the Italian American Club , Bristow Street, Saugus. The guest speaker will be Art Scarpa on the fascinating world of Miniature Plants. Mr. Scarpa lectures widely and has won many prizes at the New England Spring Flower Show, and is Past President of the Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts. He is also a certified Judge and a member of the Miniature Plant Society. Refreshments will be served. The public is always welcome. However, a fee may be charged to non-members. The meeting of the Saugus Democratic Town Committee, will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2010, at 7:00 at Doc Dumas Meeting Room at Laurel Gardens. Join members and friends of the MoonPool Coven for our 3rd Annual Witches’ Ball and Dumsupper! This is a wonderful way to celebrate Samhain (Halloween) in a traditional way while having a great time! The evening will start with a costume party from 8PM – 11PM. We will have music, refreshments and contest, including costume contest and karaoke. After the party those who wish (and ALL are invited) can stay for a short ceremony honoring family & friends who have passed, culminating with a traditional Witches’ Dumsupper. Admission to the Party is a non-perishable item for donation to the local food pantry, or a pot-luck dish to share at the party. If you wish to attend the ritual you may need 2 copper coins (or pennies) to pay the ferryman to cross the river Styx. Children are welcome to the Party but due to the late hour would not be encouraged to attend the ritual. The Dumsupper will require all in attendance to refrain from speaking during the meal.
