The Dark Maze

by

Stacey was one of those girls who was never afraid of anything. Unlike Stacey, her sister, Marilyn was afraid of almost EVERYTHING. One day they went out to the store to pick up their costumes for Halloween. Stacey wanted to be a raccoon. Marilyn wanted to be a maid. They asked if they had the costumes at the store. The clerk said they had neither one there. The sisters walked out of the store, disappointed.

They saw another costume store over to the left. “Marilyn, how about we try that store over there? It looks interesting.” “I guess, but it looks kind of scary.” “It's a costume store. What do you expect? Candy?” The girls continued on to the store. It did look a little scary to Stacey, but she decided to try anyway. Once they were inside, it wasn't really that scary! Marilyn decided to change first, since there was only one stall. How strange? Only one stall... She thought. Whatever... Marilyn grabbed the maid costume and ran into the stall to change. When she came out, she realized the store wasn't the same. It had become a dark maze! The walls were red and black. As she started walking, the lights got dimmer and dimmer. Soon it was pitch black, and she needed to get out of there. Marilyn called for help, but no one answered. Fog swept through the air and it felt muggy. “STACEY?” Marilyn called. No one answered. The air smelled musty and dirty. She kept on walking, feeling around as she walked. She felt scared and hopeless. The walls felt weird. They were smooth, but Marilyn wasn't too sure what they were made of. Suddenly, a light turned on. Stacey was behind her, but no one else. “Stacey! I missed you so much!” Marilyn said. Stacey didn't say a word. She pulled Marilyn by her hand to a corner. “Do you realize what is happening? Every time someone tries on the maid costume, they have to pass the maze! It's a haunted costume. The evil things here think you are their slave, and they don't want you to pass, so you can stay forever and be their slave! We only have an hour left until we are stuck here! Come on!”

Suddenly, a gust of cold wind came from a hole in the wall in front of them. They both held onto the wall for dear life as it pushed them back. The wind stopped. The timer above them roared loudly. You have twenty minutes left! The girls ran as fast as they could. They had a plan. They would keep on running left, and if they couldn't find the end, then they would go back to their original place and do the same thing, but go right. “Yes!! we found it!” They felt relieved, but there was still one problem. They were still in the store!  They ran out of the store and decided to never go there again. “I'll give you twenty bucks if you promise to never ever speak of this to anybody,” said Marilyn. “Deal.” Neither one of them told anybody, but they used it as a scary story to tell at sleepovers.“You tell that one all the time! We all know it's fake!” said all their friends. “Who said it was?” Marilyn always said. And it was left a mystery. Nobody knows what happens if you don't get out in time. I guess we'll just have to wait until next Halloween....
