New guestbook entries may be added by simply filling out the
form. Before posting, please be sure you have
some familiarity with the basic conventions of netiquette. We will
ignore postings that don't adhere to these conventions, or lack last names or
towns.
We also have a dedicated area for accepting feedback if you're
looking to voice your opinions about what should or shouldn't be on Saugus.net.
Also, if you want to give feedback specifically on Jim Harrington's Saugus
Photos Online Page, it has its own dedicated
guestbook.
Finally, it should be noted that this guestbook isn't well suited for
holding discussions. For that, you may want to try one of the Saugus discussion
groups; there are different ones for different topics, with the
Saugus Society Talk
one being most appropriate for general discussions.

Class of 1964. Last May I had a great reunion with Joan Carlton Neal, Marilyn Monica Carlson and Mary Dunlop at Joan's home. Good laughs and great memories. I have lived all over the world as a military wife and have worked on Cruise ships for the last 20 years. Yes, I still work on ships. I am a Port Imformation Lecturer for Princess Cruises. I have lived in Bangor Maine (Clifton) for 4 years. Would love to hear from any Saugus friends that remember me. Merry Christmas 2011 and a Happy 2012 New Year.

The snow is just starting to fall here this afternoon and I took a break from working in the shop to see what is new in the old home town.
My wife and I attended the 1961 class reunion and had a fantastic time. Kudos to all who made it such a success and especially Jane Laskey Lancaster and Henrietta LaBorde Belyea;you did a bang up job.
Unfortunately we had to cut our visit a bit short due to prior commitments I had here.We did get to see my grandson Jacob and give him the miniature race car I had built for him. Took him about 5 minutes to learn how to drive it around without hitting anything substantial and he will turn 3 in January.
We also got to see several of our foster children that were with us so long ago. My ex-wife and son rounded them up for a party on Saturday following the reunion. Some I hadn't seen in 20 years.A great time.
If anything was not so good; it was trying to cope with the volume of traffic that seems to have appeared over the years. The biggest traffic problem we have here is Race Weekend (Michigan Int'l Speedway is 15 miles from us) and even that pales in comparison to everyday traffic in Saugus. I don't know how you cope with it.
Anyway we had a great time and when New Year's Eve (our anniversary) comes around we will raise a glass to all our friends, relatives, and classmates in fond remembrance of a great time that was all too brief.
Merry Christmas to all!

I lived in Saugus for 20 years graduated in 1963. Had the best time of my life and the best friends that anyone could have. I wish that my kids could have grown up in the same time, haveing no locks on the doors. I had the most known mother in town with all the boys in town. She worked at the town hall where you had to sign up for the draft. I didn't find out till years latter that she would notify guys when they were going to be drafted so they could enlist in a service they wanted. Sadly she past a few years ago. She had lived in Laural Gardens where we use to Ice Skate, when it was Mit Stoukers field before. She had moved from a house on Elmwood Ave that my father built an I grew up in. Thank You Jim Rumson

Just a short note to wish all my friends and relatives in Saugus a Happy and prosperous (but most of all SAFE) New Year. Celebrating our 17th (should have been our 44th) anniversary tonight (Dec.31st) and thinking about how great a lobster would taste at the Wharf in Revere (along with their fantastic popovers) or a fantastic filet at the Hilltop. I'd even opt for a bowl of clam chowder and a rare roast beef sandwich at Kelly's.
To remember how great it is to sit on the sea wall at Lynn Beach and watch the tide come in and the sunrise over the ocean and to be in a place where there is a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner (just about) and getting down to Kane's donuts extra early to make sure you get one of their delicious coffee rolls (more like cakes). I think if I still lived in Saugus I'd probably weigh 500 lbs. Gotta go now;I'm starting to drool...........

Really appreciate this site-Saugus, MA is my hometown, I was born in Melrose hospital in 1949. We (Ed & Arline, Lyndon & Dawn James) lived on Greystone Rd and my grandparents (Clarence "Bob" & Edna Giles lived on Conrad Terrace they owned the Howard Johnson restraunt and later he became a Deputy Sheriff for Essex County. Have such great memories of growing up there with my best friends Billy Short and Stevie Carlson.
I happened to see a note about Heck Allen's-where we ate many a lobster roll. Saturday mornings, where for a quarter we could buy candy, ride the trolly, watch a movie (usually a Frances the talking Mule one), eat popcorn and a drink, and ride the trolly back. Good days!!!

Stumbled across this site after looking @ saugus pics. Boy, they sure brought back memories! Looking @ pics of the rotary, I felt I was that same little 5 yr old that used go walking around that area w/ my father,or sometimes my nana. I went to oaklandvale elem but moved to Vermont when I was 6. My father owned Bill's barber shop. He owned the whole building & I remember there was a dance studio in one part of it but I don't recall the name of it. I miss Saugus so badly. I haven't even been able to go back to visit Mass since the early 90's. I miss Kane's doughnut shop, but esp Esposito's bakery. I haven't been able to find an Italian rum cake anything like they used to make. I live in Missouri now. Just wanted to say thanks for the fond memories, & I will ALWAYS LOVE SAUGUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sisters and I are having a colorful discussing and we all do not seem to have the same memories (Imagine!) so we are looking for help. We livid in Saugus for quite a while (me for over 50 years) starting in about 1951. We lived up on route C1 what is now between Kappyâs and Waylus restaurant. Some of us seem to remember a small restaurant where the building is below Waylus. Doe anyone remember what the name of restaurant was back then?

To Tom from Texas re: Richard Provenzano. His wife said that he came home the day you were at the Iron Works and told her about you and your family. She said thank you for the kind words.

Just wanted to wish all my friends and relatives back in Massachusetts a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hope you didn't get too inundated by the snowstorm.
Here in Southeast Michigan we don't usually get a lot of snow (about 2 ft. total last year) but it is bitter cold and windy. We have already had below zero temps this year.
Enjoy the holidays all and hopefully my bride and I will be visiting again this summer with our vintage Pontiac wagon.

Hi Saugus! I live in Allentown Pennsylvania and am writting to say that i ordered the Saugus little league book, "Capturing Our Hearts". I not only received it today, but finished it!! The story was very inspiring. I watched the '03 semi-final live on ESPN and reading this book brought back great memories. Best wishes to all the players and coaches.

I have not been out to this sight in a few years, but it is
snowing, yes really snowing here in southeast TX,(we have
hurricanes here not snow). I got to thinking about the snow and
Christmas as a child at Saugus. After reviewing the usual
suspects, I went out to the Saugus Advertiser where I was
saddened to read of the passing off Mr. Pro, eighth grade
American history teacher. I would like to extend my condolences
and deepest appreciation to his family and friends. He was by
far the most interesting and engaging teacher I ever had
anywhere, anytime, and I believe I had some darn good ones, many
right there in Saugus. I have not returned to Saugus since
September 2001, a couple of weeks after 9/11. It is my custom to
take the family, wife and two daughters (native Texans) to the
Ironworks and to my shock and excitement whom should be
conducting tours, but Mr. Provenzano. I thought I was right back
in his class again. I rose my hand to answer all of his
questions correctly. At one point he asked if I had ever been to
the Ironworks. I replied that I not only had been to the
Ironworks previously, but I also had been educated by one of the
best, himself. He stammered, blushed, and sheepishly admitted
that he did not remember me, but that is OK. He was a fine man
and I am pleased to say he was MY teacher. I hope that other
students that live there locally might honor him too. To all the
class of '80 and Waybright of the early to mid-seventies, my
best wishes for a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. To
Kevin Kelly whom hopes someone will drop him a line, you are
welcome to drop me a line.

Gee wiz, bad day at Appleton's Pulpit. I just went back out to
the Advertiser and noted the passing of Liz Amirault. I had
actually been in communication with her in the mid-nineties. She
was a postal worker and her husband built airplanes.
Condolonsces to her family too.
