Also, if you want to give feedback specifically on Jim Harrington's Saugus Photos Online Page, it has its own dedicated guestbook.

Finally, it should be noted that this guestbook isn't well suited for holding discussions. For that, you may want to try one of the Saugus discussion groups; there are different ones for different topics, with the Saugus Society Talk one being most appropriate for general discussions.

Hi Saugus! I live in Allentown Pennsylvania and am writting to say that i ordered the Saugus little league book, "Capturing Our Hearts". I not only received it today, but finished it!! The story was very inspiring. I watched the '03 semi-final live on ESPN and reading this book brought back great memories. Best wishes to all the players and coaches.

I have not been out to this sight in a few years, but it is snowing, yes really snowing here in southeast TX,(we have hurricanes here not snow). I got to thinking about the snow and Christmas as a child at Saugus. After reviewing the usual suspects, I went out to the Saugus Advertiser where I was saddened to read of the passing off Mr. Pro, eighth grade American history teacher. I would like to extend my condolences and deepest appreciation to his family and friends. He was by far the most interesting and engaging teacher I ever had anywhere, anytime, and I believe I had some darn good ones, many right there in Saugus. I have not returned to Saugus since September 2001, a couple of weeks after 9/11. It is my custom to take the family, wife and two daughters (native Texans) to the Ironworks and to my shock and excitement whom should be conducting tours, but Mr. Provenzano. I thought I was right back in his class again. I rose my hand to answer all of his questions correctly. At one point he asked if I had ever been to the Ironworks. I replied that I not only had been to the Ironworks previously, but I also had been educated by one of the best, himself. He stammered, blushed, and sheepishly admitted that he did not remember me, but that is OK. He was a fine man and I am pleased to say he was MY teacher. I hope that other students that live there locally might honor him too. To all the class of '80 and Waybright of the early to mid-seventies, my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. To Kevin Kelly whom hopes someone will drop him a line, you are welcome to drop me a line.

Gee wiz, bad day at Appleton's Pulpit. I just went back out to the Advertiser and noted the passing of Liz Amirault. I had actually been in communication with her in the mid-nineties. She was a postal worker and her husband built airplanes. Condolonsces to her family too.

Just wanted to drop a line to everyone in Saugus (especially class of 76). Finally got a chance to show my kids (junior at University of Central Florida and a junior at Oviedo High School) where I graduated from and the town I lived in. Needless to say that although I thought Saugus had grown in the 30 years since I was last there - they couldn't believe I came from such a small town. I was disappointed that the Iron Works was closed - as I wanted to show them the highlight of the town. We were only in town for a day last summer. I never thought I would say it - but going back made me realize how much I missed Saugus!

Hi Saugus,

Here I am again saying hello. I have moved from Brighton, Illinois to Clifton, Maine. I bought a cute two bedroom log home in Jan 2008. Yes , I got 15 feet of snow. I wanted to move back "home" and Maine seemed to be best for me and my pocketbook. I still travel alot. I am off to Europe to work in June/July. Then again in Sept for four months. I now work full time for Holland America Line. I am one of their Travel Guides. If you are in Maine call me at 207-843-0713 and if I am home we can visit. My email is loielennon@yahoo.com

My brother continues to live in Lynnfield (George "Buck" Rogers). My Mom passed in April 2007. She suffered with Alzheimer's for too many years. (She owned Rogers Treasure Chest in Cliftondale Sq.)

I have heard from a few people over the years through Saugus.net. Some I have not had the chance to email back because I have out to sea. Email me again so we can chat.

I am part of the Troop Greeters of Maine. We greet the troops that fly through Bangor either inbound or outbound. What an honor!!!! God Bless our troops.

GREAT pictures...mthank you for sharing with everyone. My grandparents, Peter and Mary Smith, lived on Golden Hills Rd in the 1930's. I can remember the wonderful July 4th celebrations held across from the Waybrights when I was a small child and the great blueberry picking up near the high tension wires. For a short time, my family lived near what was then called Second and Third Lake. There was a small park originally dedicated to my uncle, Joseph Smith, the first person from the area killed at Guadalcanal in World War II. I don't know if the park is still there but I believe the name changed quite some time ago. I can't remember exactly when the last family member left the area but I think it may have been around the late 1950's, early 60's. Other names from the area that I remember are the Maher family, White, and Waybright. My uncle probably remembers lots more since he grew up there. Would love hearing from anyone still living or had family in that area from the 30's to the late 50's. You can write to me direct at smith27 at alltel dot net. Just change at to the proper symbol and the dot to a period.

Glad I found this site. I live in NJ now but consider Saugus my true home. I came to Saugus a age 12 and left 22 years ago, though I have came to visit several times. My parents owned and trained at Suffolk Downs for many years. I miss the town dearly and the good friends I left there. Coming to visit soon, hope Saugus hasn't changed that much.

Follows here a revision of my Christmas poem to all who have passed through Saugus:

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM LILY POND

When each tree is snowed upon each limb, when children lie sleeping waiting him, when Lily Pond provides quick owl’s hoot and snow is crunching beneath my boot,

know I walk here and think now of you who sometimes or not knew this view; who by this pond and this water wide may have walked here along its side;

who one summer may have early cast for bass or pickerel that quickly passed, or shore-wide winds of December ilk dared touch your cheek with dash of silk;

or when plush leaves oft were turned to gold as pure-flung autumn engaged its hold. Be sure all seasons of your younger grace walk beside me in this most silent place,

know I think, while Christmas spreads from angel’s top to children’s beds, of all my friends whom I correspond and wish visitation beside this pond.

Come to Lily Pond again, to Saugus town where Christmas once was tender known, where we’ll gather in childhood memories this pond’s air and smell and winter breeze,

where all our younger lives were spent about the shores where skaters went, and on slicker ice we slickered flew fair to the Turnpike and out of view.

Welcome Christmas back as it was then, fair songs we sang, the friends we’ve been, good wishes springing now full on air… for you all the hopes the heart can bear.

Merry Christmas.

Tom
