To Susan Curry and her Brownie troop!
When I was a lad , I lived in Cliftondale and attended Saugus High School, then located at the intersection of Winter and Central streets. Little did I realize at that time, how much of the world I'd see.
As a teacher of chemistry at SUNY(State University of New York),my family and I were invited to go to Java, Indonesia on a SUNY-Ford Foundation project in support of the teacher training colleges of that country.
Of course Indonesia consists of 13,000 islands strung out along the Equator. We lived on the Island of Java, in the city of Bandung(3rd Largest city),100 miles from the Capitol, Jakarta. Bandung has an elevation of about 2500 feet, and hence an equitable climate, even though situated on the Equator.
Indonesia is half way around the world. So when its noon here, its midnight of the next day, there.Enroute to Indonesia from the U.S., one crosses the International Date line and loses a day - Monday suddenly becomes Tuesday! Returning home, one gains a day.
Please give my kind regards to all your members!
I trust that some day you will all be able to visit another country!
