CONGRATULATIONS to the Saugus American Little League All-Star team for their tremendous accomplishment at the Little League World Series. I was a member of that League's all-star team in 1960 and 1961 and sure can remember the thrill of the competition. The best we did at that time was to play for the District Championship, which we lost to Swampscott. Unfortunately I was unable to watch any of the games on ESPN as I did not have access to that station here, which was a huge disappointment to me. I was rooting for Saugus to beat Florida so I could see them play for the World title. Does the League still play out of the Hurd Avenue Field? My Mom (Irene Mancuso) was President of the Saugus American Little League Women's Auxillary for a year or two back in the late 50's or early 60's (can't remember which years). They ran the concession stand that was built back then behind home plate for the purpose of raising additional funds to help operate the league and make field improvements. I can remember a lot of families back then who contributed greatly in the organization and running of the Saugus American Little League..family names such as the Burke's, Cecere's, Sands, January, Serino, Connaughton...to mention a few that come quickly to mind. Sorry but could not help reminiscing. Great job kids...you now have a memory that will be with you for the rest of your life. Also, congrats must also go to the team coaches and organizers..as their commitment to this team effort has also been very significant. Continued success next season. Would love hearing from any "old" friends who see this entry. Gary Mancus
