Hi from Australia! My name is Janine McGuinness and my father is Frederick Henry McGuinness, a Royal Australian Navy WW2 veteran. He was recently reminiscing about his brief visit to the USA while stationed there during the War in 1943. He spoke fondly of staying with a family in Saugus, Massachusetts, for several days while on shore leave. I asked him for details and what he could recall was the following: the father's name was Harold H Wheeler, a 1st Sgt with the Mass State Guard, E Company, 24th Infantry. He had a wife and four daughters, two of which were twins and the eldest daughter was named Jane. They lived at 19 Whitney St, Saugus. Apparently they were a very musical family. If anyone knows of that family (the twins would be in their early 60s now), can you please contact me at the email address below. My father is 83 years old. He has never returned to America but recalls that all the people he met at that time were generous and lovely people. He would love to know what became of the Wheeler family.
