Hello to all. I have been reading all of the posts and
memories come flooding back to me. I think we were
fortunate to grow up in a time and a place where you
could ride your bike from sunup to sundown, you could
fish the ponds, and play in the clay pits (before the
Vets school was built) and leave the doors unlocked when
you went to the store-ahh, the "good old days".
I left a post last year and heard from several old
friends, including Ray Smith. Ray used to live on Hurd
Avenue and he was always pin-striping our cars, and
bikes. He stayed with it and just shipped me an
incredible helmet that he painted by hand- it is
magnificent with an American Flag on front and Eagles on
the sides and back. I ride a lot up in the mountains of
Georgia and every trip I hear the same thing, "who did
that helmet?". Ray, it is truly a work of art.
I have read all the comments about the
"A
Gathering Of Memories" and echo the same
feelings. John Burns captured the essence of
Saugus.
Meredith, my oldest daughter got married in March and her
God Parents, Karen (Kelly) Cotte '64, and Roger Cotte '63
came down. It was great seeing old friends again. It is
even better when you can count a cousin and her husband
as old friends instead of just relatives.
It seems as if everyone I have heard from is either
retired or getting ready to retire. It was just the other
day that we were trying to figure out what we wanted to
do with our lives. It is true that youth is wasted on the
young.
Saugus was a great place to grow up and although I don't
miss the winters my heart will always be in Saugus.
