PDA / Handheld Computer Comparison

A Comparison of PDAs, Handhelds, Palmtops, PalmPCs, Palm-sized PCs, HPCs, etc.

For your enjoyment, here's one of the most detailed comparisons of PDAs, handheld computers, palmtops, palm-sized computers, and PalmPCs to be found anywhere.

Inaccuracies, additions? Send e-mail to feneric@saugus.net.

Please note that this page has entered maintenance mode and is no longer being actively updated with new entries. Basically I got tired of continuously working on it and updating it only to have it immediately copied wholesale by around a half-dozen other sites. Mind you, this wasn't a case of mirroring (which I would have welcomed had the other folks asked) -- it was a case of ripping off my work and pretending it was their own. Two of the other sites even went so far as to copy my color scheme...

It is possible that I will resume work on this site at some point in the future if the interest seems to be there.

The PDA / Hand-held Computer Comparison Page FAQ

There have been enough repeat questions asked that a FAQ has not only become practical, but necessary. This FAQ covers the common questions, provides help with the overall structure of this PDA site, and discusses the successes and failures of various browsers as they try to work their way through one of the largest tables on the Web. This section should be viewable by virtually all web browsers, including web access from e-mail.

The Big Table

Here it is: the infamous, mongo huge (inconveniently large even) table of features and properties of numerous hand-held computers, palmtop computers, and PDAs. The information was gleaned from manufacturers, distributors, and owners and is as such not guaranteed to be correct. I would expect however that it would be close. It is also definitely far from complete. Even in its current state though I think it may be the most comprehensive tabular comparison of its kind on the 'net. Note though that the size comes at a cost: this big table is (ironically) not particularly friendly to PDA web browsers simply because of its scale.

Comments

The big table is all well and good, but "what does it actually mean?" you ask? These comments go a bit beyond the story told by the raw numbers in the big table. They also touch on past, present, and future and aren't afraid of explicitly saying what's bad about a particular unit (none of them are perfect yet, folks). This portion should be easy to browse with virtually any browser, including web access via e-mail.

Top 5 Lists

Not able to digest the big table in its entire horror? Here's a few choice highlights separated out for easier viewing and quicker comparison. Be aware that the top five lists will always be somewhat less up-to-date than the big table itself as they're only periodically constructed from the contents of the big table. This portion should be viewable with any browser that supports tables.

Related Links

Still haven't found what you're looking for? It is unrealistic to expect any one page to cover everything, and this one makes no extraordinary claims to do so. Perhaps you might have better luck with some of these related links. Although this portion itself should be viewable with any browser, no such guarantees are made for any of the destinations of the provided links.
