Highlights from last night's Special Saugus Town Meeting include the passing of articles to fund additional street trees, repairs to the buildings and roads in the Riverside Cemetery, hiring a new Elementary Media Specialist to be stationed in the New Veterans School, and a study of the entire Saugus School System.

Highlights from last night's Special Saugus Town Meeting include the passing of an article to fund updating the communication facilities of the Emergency Management Department; an article to fund the purchase a petroleum measuring device for the Weights & Measures Department to monitor oil trucks; an article to name the clubhouse at Stackpole Field the Edna Winslow Memorial Clubhouse; an article to ban the use of motorized scooters, motorized skateboards, and other similar motorized vehicles on public land, public streets, and public sidewalks; an article to form a committee to study the taking of Vinegar Hill by eminent domain; and an article to rezone the land between the Oaklandvale School and the Mall from business use to multi-family residential use in the hope that the developer who owns it will try and work with the Town to develop a less damaging development than was originally planned (some plans were shown giving a rough outline of the less damaging version of the development, but the details of the plans are outside the domain of the Town Meeting and are not locked in by the Town Meeting's vote; any plans will have to go before the Planning Board, the Conservation Commission, and probably more).
