Dailies for November of 2009

November 30, 2009

Remember while you're taking advantage of Cyber Monday sales online that several local businesses maintain an online presence, too. Places like Ace of Clubs Golf, Nhung's Notions, and Park Press Printers sell their goods and services all over the country but are based right here in Saugus.

Today is the busiest shopping day of the year; you can however avoid the crowds, save time and money, and help out Saugus.net all at the same time. Just by using one of the links to our various sponsors (such as Amazon.com or the iTunes Store) here on Saugus.net and place an order, you'll not only save yourself money and aggravation, but you'll be helping to support the numerous free services we provide here at Saugus.net, too.

There are also local businesses (like Nhung's Notions) running online sales throughout the weekend. Be sure to check them out as well.

Recently there have been lots of spam messages going around claiming to be from random (but generic sounding) Saugus.net, Saugus.org, ShellTown, or even Saugus.MA.US addresses. Do not open any of these, as in all cases they are forged. We've said it before but it bears repeating: we never send spam.

The results of the Twelfth Annual Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest were all posted Saturday night. As with last year, our judges had to contend with many excellent entries.

It was an eventful year. We had an all-time high of five winners coming from outside the United States (including our first winners ever from the countries of Canada, Germany, and Cambodia). We had our first interactive fiction winners. We saw Revere High School sweep its category and knock Saugus High School out of its solo spot as the winningest high school in the contest's history, pushing Revere past both Wakefield and Marblehead to become the second most winningest community in the contest's history in the process (the charts have been updated). Sadly, we also lost John Burns, one of the only two judges who had been with us since the contest first started in 1998.
