Dailies for October of 2000

October 31, 2000

We've now started to post the winners in our third annual Halloween Ghost Story Contest. We'll be continuing to post them throughout the night, category by category. Generally speaking, it was somewhat more competitive this year than last year. While prior to this year we had never received a single High School entry, this year we received two, and as with last year, the Adult category was extremely competitive. The big event however this year was at the Middle School level, where no fewer than 120 stories were written in the Belmonte Middle School alone (and of course entries were by no means confined to the Belmonte Middle School).

Highlights from tonight's Special Saugus Town Meeting include the passing of an article to purchase more books and materials for the library, articles to fund repairs to the schools and the Essex Street Fire Station, an article funding the opening of the Pranker Pond Reservation in May (rather than June), and an article funding a new position for a zoning / general by-laws enforcement officer.

Just a reminder that when you enter the Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest, please be sure to let us know which age category you fall into and give us a means of contacting you afterwards should you win. Also, if you e-mail us an entry we'll respond saying that we received it within a couple of days. If you don't get such a response (or haven't gotten such a response), please let us know.

The deadline for this year's Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest is coming up; the 29th is just a little over a week away. Why not spend a little time this weekend patching together that story that you've been meaning to put to paper?

Just a reminder that for us to enable people to click your name in your Guest Book entry to send you e-mail, you must give us a proper e-mail address. It must have a name followed by the at sign and a domain name (something like name@domain.com or name@domain.net or similar). We'll make an attempt to figure out malformed entries, but it delays the posting and we often end up not including the e-mail address.

Of course, Halloween Ghost Story Contest entries can still be submitted during this time.

The office will be closed for the holiday on Monday. It will also close a little early today as one of the people behind the scenes here at Saugus.net is getting married (those of you who have called in may know her by voice). Please join us in wishing life-long Saugonian Heather Brown and former Saugonian Paul Cole all the best in their upcoming marriage. We'll miss Heather around here.
