2002 Special State Primaries Results

2002 First Essex Senate Primary

Most of the unofficial results of the election have been tabulated. They're still unofficial because overseas federal employees etc. are allowed to vote and their votes can take up to ten days to arrive back and be counted. The word "most" is used because they are not all tabulated yet.

To be blunt, voter turn-out was even more dismal than the weather. Only 1673 people in all of Saugus voted. Four political parties submitted ballots: Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and Green. Of these ballot choices, all but the Democratic one were blank and offered just the opportunity to write-in a candidate. A relative handful of people opted to write-in a Republican candidate on the Republican ballot; no-one took the opportunity to write-in a candidate on either the Libertarian or Green ballots. Only ballots with votes are shown below.

The results in summary are that McGee won the Democratic nomination by a fairly large margin (not just here in Saugus but in Lynn and Swampscott as well) with Migliaccio finishing a strong second. Of the small number of blank Republican ballots taken, a surprisingly large fraction were returned equally blank.
