Town Trivia Question List

If you can be the first to figure out the answer to one of the questions below and bring that answer to the Saugus.net booth at Founders' Day, you'll win a free T-shirt. Some of the questions are harder than others; remember that you have to be the first with a correct answer for a particular question. Answers can be found in a variety of places; some can be found online on Saugus.net; others can be found in the library; a few can be found in the just-released Saugus book, Of Time and the River; still others can be found on plaques and monuments in town. We're starting off the day with T-shirts available in a variety of colors and sizes, but size selection will be on a first-come, first-served basis we recommend that you figure out your clue early so you can get your pick of T-shirt color and size.

1. What is the title of the sequel to the long sold-out Saugus book A Gathering of Memories?

   Of Time and the River. Solved by Julie Malone.

2. What are the two largest rivers in Saugus?

   The Saugus River and the Pines River. Solved by Mike Serino.

3. Counting this year’s, how many annual Saugus.net Halloween Ghost Story Contests have been held?

   10. Solved by Kaitlyn Heathman.

4. What is another popular name for the Boardman House?

   Either the Scotch-Boardman House or the Bennett-Boardman House. Solved by Julie (no last name given).

5. There are seven books in the Saugus Historical Society Booklet Series; name any two.

   The full list is available on the Saugus Historical Society site; the Booklet Series consists of the first seven books. This was the only question that no one solved.

6. Which other communities share a land border with Saugus?

   Working clockwise from the South: Revere, Malden, Melrose, Wakefield, Lynnfield, and Lynn. Solved by Ruth Berg.

7. What year did the Saugus airfield first open?

   1911. The solver didn't leave a name; drop us a note if you'd like it listed.

8. Name any three of the traditional eight major Saugus neighborhoods.

   Saugus Center, Cliftondale, East Saugus, North Saugus, Lynnhurst, Oaklandvale, the Golden Hills, and Kenwood. Solved by Christine Wilson.

9. Saugus is approximately how many square miles in size?

   Around 11 just counting land, or 12 counting both land and water. Solved by S. M. Horlick.
