Details of the various Saugus Founders' Day events are just starting to trickle in today. We'll be posting all the information as we get it; look on the Community Event Calendar for the general date and time details; we'll put up a dedicated page to cover Founders' Day in the Local Events section when we know more. Look for it a little later this week. We'll be giving out some T-shirts in a contest at Founders' Day this year, and we'll announce more of the specifics of our contest when we post the dedicated Founders' Day '99 page.

To give an update on the Saugus SETI team, Saugus area machines have already contributed close to 200 results (we'll probably pass 200 by some time tomorrow) with nearly half a year of combined CPU time spent on the project that would have otherwise been wasted.

The Friends of Breakheart Reservation asked that we post this announcement:

Have you been meaning to start and stick to an exercise program but find it hard to keep motivated? Tired of the same old routine? Don't have the money or time to go to a gym? Why not try the Breakheart Walking Club? You can exercise in Breakheart's beautify, quiet, wooded surroundings beginning Saturday, September 4th at 8:00 and 10:00 AM. We will record you weekly mileage, and prizes will be awarded at successive levels of accumulated miles.

A leader conducted walk will also be held on September 5th (see the Community Event Calendar for more details).

You may sign up at the Breakheart Visitor's Center, 177 Forest Street, Saugus, or call Chris Dunne at: 781-233-0834 on Saturdays or Sundays from 9:00 PM to 4:00 PM for additional information.

Did you know that there's a Saugus.net bin in the Saugus Town Hall? We'd like to announce that it's being moved. It's been in the basement copy room since the move over from the temporary Town Hall, but it's being moved upstairs into the Selectmen's office with the bins for the two newspapers. It'll be available in both places for awhile but the downstairs one will eventually be removed. In any case, it's another means of contacting us in addition to our phone number (781-231-2621), FAX number (781-231-4719), feedback form, and e-mail.

While we don't usually post information here during the weekend, we noticed that the machine the University of California, Berkeley has dedicated to the SETI project has been having some troubles this weekend. Keep in mind people from all over the world are actively trying to participate in this project, not just people from our area. If you're having difficulties seeing Team Saugus' current stats, this is why. It should settle out within a day or two.

August 6, 1999

The Daily Evening Item had a front page story last night about our participation in the SETI project. We've received verbal permission from article author Jack Butterworth to post a copy of it online here, and we'll do so within the next few days. On the topic of the Saugus SETI team, we've gotten quite a few more participants than since we last mentioned it. Be sure to check out our team's progress, and remember, everyone is welcome to join in.
