Since there is already around a foot of snow already on the ground here and another half foot or so is expected tonight, it probably isn't too surprising that there's a snow emergency in effect in Saugus. While accurate snowfall measurements don't go too far back, informal snowfall measurements for Saugus and the surrounding area are available for many storms back through the early 1600s. In all this time, the record year seems to be 1717, as back then it was recorded that a series of storms (with little melting in between) left over ten feet of snow on the ground (not counting the drifts, of course).
