Last week we discussed Gopher in general, and's Gopher Site specifically, and there are those who've since been wondering what's still available via Gopher that's not available via the Web. No one really knows for sure; if you explore Gopherspace you'll probably find things that most people have forgotten; it's been estimated that there are still two to three million Gopher pages out there. We can say that here on we have a Saugus dictionary (similar to our Computer Dictionary) that's accessible via Gopher and dict, but which has never been pulled over to the Web (some day we probably will port it, but it hasn't happened yet). You'll need something like Firefox to use Gopher, and there are also special plug-ins available to make browsing Gopherspace more pleasant.

In one of our posts last week we mentioned Gopher, and that was an unfamiliar term to some readers. Basically Gopher predates the Web but serves some of the same needs. Now it can be seen as a little bit less glitzy and quite a bit faster way of getting at some information. These days most of what was on Gopher has been ported to the Web, but you'll still find some interesting information in Gopherspace (that's what the world-wide collection of Gopher pages are called) that hasn't made its way across.'s Gopher Site is still supported; feel free to check it and other Gopher sites out -- who knows what you'll find? Note though that not all browsers support Gopher. You'll need something like Firefox to browse Gopherspace properly.

In a couple of posts made earlier this week, we touched on some of's past ten years. What will happen in the next ten years? It's largely up to you, our readers. We try to focus on the areas that we know are popular. In the absence of feedback, we go by the popularity of individual pages and features. We know the annual ghost story contest is popular, so we plan on continuing it and even expanding it. We know the e-book reader is popular, and we're working on an updated version. What's your favorite feature? What would you like to see expanded or improved? Let us know and help direct our future.

May 1, 2008 turned ten today.

It doesn't seem like it's been that long.

In the past ten years, we've given out well over 200 T-shirts, and we've decided to have a little fun posting pictures of our readers wearing them. Do you have a picture of yourself wearing a T-shirt that you'd like to post? Send it to us and we'll post it.
