Today is the Day Against DRM, a day dedicated to protecting the digital rights of individuals. DRM stands for "Digital Restrictions Management" (or sometimes euphemistically "Digital Rights Management"). Most non-technical people who are familiar with it recognize it as the thing that prevents them from treating e-books like regular books or playing a song they purchased on a particular device they own.
